The paper of the day reviews the potential of KCC-1 fibrous silica in water remediation, particularly in removing heavy metals and organic dyes. Due to its unique fibrous morphology, high surface area, and tunable porosity, KCC-1 demonstrates superior adsorption properties than traditional adsorbents. The review explores its synthesis methods, including one-pot synthesis for simultaneous functionalization and post-grafting synthesis for controlled modification. Surface functionalization with silane coupling agents enhances adsorption efficiency, making KCC-1 highly effective in pollutant removal. Also, the study compares biogenic-based KCC-1, derived from agricultural waste, with synthetic-based KCC-1, its application in environmental remediation. Additionally, magnetic KCC-1 composites offer an advantage in easy separation post-adsorption.
