The paper of the day from Carbon Trends talks about heterostructured crystalline and non- crystalline carbon coating on Fe500 steel. They synthesize hard and soft carbon from organic materials, specifically the barks of Cassia fistula and various coating compositions were tried to analyse the electrochemical corrosion performance. These synthesized hard carbon and soft carbon materials are made of large-area surface flakes supported by nanocrystals, creating a stiff layer of film that supports high cyclic performance when exposed to aggressive environments. The composite combination 50% hard carbon and 50% soft carbon based coating on Fe500 gives better electrochemical performance compared to other combinations.
