Stable and reusable electrospun bio-composite fibrous membranes based on PLA and natural fillers for air filtration applications
This paper of the day explores the use of biodegradable polymers (PLA) combined with natural fillers that are sourced from waste materials - Opuntia Ficus Indica (natural filler-1), Posidonia Oceanica Leaves (natural filler-2) and Lignin (natural filler-3) to develop air filters for outdoor applications. The air filter developed is very stable, UV-resistant, and reusable leading to a sustainable air filtration technology. All the synthesized air filters are tested for carbon powder absorption. Filters made from natural filler-1 and natural filler-3 showed better performance even after UV irradiation for 4 hours, this makes them suitable air filter technology for both indoor and outdoor applications.
